(CD) The Immortal Hour: The Blackbird (2025)
Fiona Macleod’s 1899 masterpiece “The Immortal Hour” is now a brand new musical theatre piece for a chamber ensemble. It is the story of a human king and a royal Sidhe (Shee) and explores love, dreams and death and the relationship between human and faery worlds.
The all new score, composed by Greg Dinunzi (The Blackbird), is performed by an ensemble including concert guitar, cello, viola, bass clarinet, vibraphone and two special guest musicians Karola Elssner on Armenian duduk and R.J. Stewart who plays psaltery, as well as performing the voice of the King Eochaidh. The cast sings, speaks and chants to celebrate the magical poetry. The music floats in dark and misty soundscapes creating a gentle, otherworldly environment.
The work is 70 minutes long and is intended to be listened to in one sitting like a play or film.
